Free or £20 online?

Why a cheap formation often costs more

Many online providers form a company for free or for £20 to £50. But the package usually stops at Companies House. Then our clients come to us to register everything else, one service at a time.

Formation online, then an accountant

Corporation Tax registration and your UTR, £150. VAT registration, £300. PAYE and CIS registration, charged on top. Your HMRC account still to set up.

Formation with us

Every registration you need is already in the price, together with your HMRC account set-up, for much less than buying them one by one.

Registered office

Which address should your company use?

You can register your company at the address where you, the director or the owner live, or at your office or business premises. It is usually the simplest choice.

  • Letters from HMRC and Companies House come straight to you
  • You pay nobody for the address
  • Your documents stay with you
  • Banks open accounts more readily for a real address

A rented address brings its own risks: some banks hesitate to open an account, and if you stop or forget to pay, your post stops being forwarded and letters from HMRC can be lost.

Quick check

Are you happy for the address to be on the public register?
Do you live or have premises in the UK?

The registered office must be a real address in the UK where post is received. A PO box is not accepted.

Your company, your access

Do you hold the keys to your own company?

We often meet new clients whose previous accountant stopped answering and never handed over their logins. The owner pays the penalties, and we spend months recovering access. Codes for a new agent go by post to the company's address, so if that is still the old accountant's address, the codes go there too.

So we set up every account in your name, show you how to log in, and save every login and code for you in our client system, where you can see them at any time. You run your company, and you are always free to stay with us or move.

Identity checks for the directors, registering your company with Companies House, registering it for Corporation Tax, VAT, PAYE and, if you work in construction, CIS, setting up your HMRC business tax account, notifications to your email, a walkthrough of the HMRC and Companies House services, and every login and access code saved for you.

The same, without VAT, PAYE and CIS. It suits a company that will not employ anyone yet and is not close to the VAT threshold. If you need them later, we register them at our usual price.

Your certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, and the incorporation application with the statement of capital and shareholdings, showing who owns which shares. Then your Companies House authentication code and, from HMRC, your Corporation Tax UTR, plus your VAT, PAYE and CIS references with the full package.

No. The Companies House registration fee, £100 or £115 for a CIC, is paid on your behalf and recharged to you at cost, with no VAT added. It is the same fee whoever forms your company.

Yes. We register every kind of company that can be formed at Companies House: private limited companies, companies limited by guarantee, charitable companies, community interest companies and limited liability partnerships. We help you choose the right structure first. A CIC is £900 and a charitable company from £600, including VAT, because we draft the objects and adapt the articles to your organisation. LLP fees are confirmed at the consultation.

Yes, and it is often the best choice. Letters from HMRC and Companies House come straight to you, you pay nobody for it, and your documents stay with you. The address appears on the public register, so if you rent or have a mortgage, check that your agreement allows a business to be registered there.

No. If you do not want your address on the public register, you can rent a virtual office address and pay the provider directly each year. We can recommend one if you ask.

No. You can choose monthly accounting with us, annual accounts only, or another accountant. Because every login and code is yours from day one, moving is never a problem.

Only if you expect your VAT-taxable turnover to go over £90,000, or you choose to register voluntarily, for example because you export goods. We help you decide before we form the company.

Yes. The company needs a registered office in the UK, so a director abroad usually uses a virtual office address. Make sure the provider forwards your post and that you keep paying for it.
